Central Iowa (Model) Railroad
Central Iowa Railroad Club of Des Moines, Iowa
The Central Iowa Railroad Company is a model railroad built and maintained by the Central Iowa Railway club of Des Moines, Iowa. They maintain a layout on the State Fair grounds on Des Moines.
On my last visit to the Iowa State Fair, in 1992, the layout was a very fine sight to see, located in a separate building on the east side of the State Fair grounds in Des Moines. The folks of the Central Iowa (Model) Railroad recommend a visit!
The Club is open every Tuesday night from about 19:00 (7:00 pm) to 22:00 (10:00pm) Central Time. It is also open most Saturday afternoons after 14:00 (2:00pm) (for work time.) The first Tuesday of the month is the business meeting. The second Tuesday of the month is an operating session. The third and subsequent Tuesdays are work sessions. Open houses are held on the last Friday of every month, starting at 19:00 (7:00pm.)
The above information is provided by Jim Leasure, (former member) of the Central Iowa Railroad Club, and updated (on 19 August, 2013) by Dave Lockard, also of the club.
The Central Iowa Railroad and the Central Iowa Railway have no affiliation, other than sharing a common name.
The Central Iowa (Model) Railroad is located (currently) in the greater Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex of Texas. One day, it may finally get back home to Iowa, but when that might be is still a mystery. (hey, if the Burlington Northern Santa Fe can be based in Ft Worth, why can't the Central Iowa be based in Dallas?)
