Special Needs

Remember the old slogan, "It's not just a car, it's your freedom?"

If you've got a physical challenge of some kind, finding a car you can drive can be an ordeal. And, unfortunately, almost all of us will have a disability at some point in our lives--whether it's a few months on crutches, a permanent mobility-impairing injury, or the plethora of hassles we'll face as our hair slowly turns blue. In fact, over 383,000 vehicles currently have adaptive equipment.

Fortunately, there are all sorts of ingenious adaptations that can be made to assist people in overcoming these challenges. And, there are lots of organizations and web sites out there who are willing to help.

But, when we tried to answer a few of these questions through our column, we were overwhelmed. Some information was useful... some was useless. And a few organizations were downright misleading.

So, we decided to sort through all the resources we could find, and present it in a logical, coherent fashion. (Note: these are two qualities we don't possess, so we had our lackeys do it.)
