First, we'd like to thank the 95,000+ people who responded to the survey in the past 12 months (well over 200,000 since we started this survey idea). And just what is "this survey idea?" I guess if you wanted to get mushy you'd call it "people helping people," but that's a little too mushy for me. On the other hand, lots of visitors to the site have in fact taken the trouble to write and say that it was a really big help to them.
Here's what happens. You--and 95,000 other people--invest about 10 minutes of your time to report repair costs for your car over the past 12 months. We put it all together and produce tons of charts showing repair and maintenance costs by specific year, make and model. You've got a '95 Toyota Camry? Or you're thinking of buying a used '95 Toyota Camry? Click a couple of times and find not only the repair costs of the '95 Camry--but how those costs compare to other Toyotas and all other vehicles in the data base. Are Japanese cars really more reliable than American cars? It's in there. Do owners of Japanese vehicles love their cars more than owners of European cars? (This might surprise you.) Does anybody like the dealer? (This'll definitely surprise you.) Would respondents buy the same car if they had it to do all over again? (This one may shock you!)
For the most important rankings we show the Top Ten and the Bottom Ten (or the Fecal Roster as it's known around here.) And it's not just numbers and charts. We've got personal comments about the joys, pleasures, thrills, headaches and lawsuits for all the cars in the database.
And of the dozens of makes of cars, there are a mere six that are loved both for the cars themselves AND for the experience of getting them fixed at the dealership (Yes! Some people do go to the dealership. But don't try it until you see the dealership ratings.) Can you guess what the six vehicles are? Is your car one of them?
