Murphy,
aka
Destructo Dog,
is the newest addition to the pack.
He's a Labrador Retriever/Weimereiner mix.
His eyes are golden and there is a lot of pink around them and
around his nose. That's the Weimereiner (some day I will learn to spell
this word) in him.
Murphy is a red dog (that's the official term for his coloring).
He has endless energy, boundless enthusiasm, and an "I'll try anything
once" attitude.
Murphy is a water dog as you can see by the picture.
He likes splashing in his pool and trying to catch the
water droplets.
He also chases raindrops and tries to catch hailstones.
Well, I never said Murphy was a brilliant dog!
Murphy likes water and things in the water so much that
I've had to fence off the pond so that he doesn't destroy
the water lilies and eat all the snails.
Of course, being a puppy (at least in attitude if not actual age),
Murphy's second-favorite pasttime
is chewing things.
The list of items he's chomped to pieces is rather long.
- about a gazillion cardboard boxes of varying sizes
- an old comforter
- a dog bed (actually the pillow for a dog bed)
- a sheepskin rat (this was a cat toy that Murphy appropriated)
- armloads of cattails from the pond
- one plastic dog bowl
- innumerable plastic pots
- 2 rugs
- half of my stack of firewood
- a scratching post (the cats didn't care, they never used it)
- two giant sisal rope mice
- one of my feather fans (bad dog!)
- a yellow water lily (really bad dog!)
But he hasn't destroyed any of his own stuffed toys!
Right now Murphy has 5 plush toys: a green dinosaur,
2 purple dinosaurs with squeakers that sound like a constipated cow,
a red and black whale and
a pink elephant (Mr. L. A. Funt).
Since Murphy spends a lot of time away from
home (travel, hiking, etc.), he has a little added
protection just in case he gets lost ...
microchips!
Murphy is registered with the
AKC Companion Animal Recovery System.
Collars and tags may be lost, but a microchip,
because it is inserted under the skin, will
always be there.
(The cats are 'chipped, too.)
Puppy Pix
We actually had snow in Plano in 1995 and again in 1996.
The pond even froze thick enough that Murphy could
walk on it (well, he was a lot smaller then).
Murphy thought the ice was the some new funky kind of
dirt; he tried to dig through it.
Here's a couple of pictures of Murphy playing
in the snow with one of his favorite toys.
The snow in Plano was nothing like the snow in Maryland.
They had 58 inches of snow for winter 1995-96!
My sister Virginia sent me a picture of
Seawolf,
her 98 pound yellow Labrador Retriever.
He loves the snow, too.
Lest we forget ...
