MiB Team Briefing

Lisa Eisenstein, Julie Roach, John Stangel, ?

Operatives RH5513, EH9034, ID8641, and YV4098, you are hereby activated and placed on alert status. Our monitoring of various sources has revealed that a Russian scientist by the name of Igor Platov has been developing radically advanced new technology. We strongly suspect that this technology is actually being fed to him from extra-terrestrial sources. He may or may not be aware of the origin of his new "discoveries". Naturally, we can not permit any agency to jeopardize our plans which hinge upon a controlled introduction of offworld technologies.

Dr. Platov is attending the Atomic Power conference which is being held in the city of Dallas, USA. He is also planning to defect to the United States. This should provide us with the opportunity to examine and, if necessary, terminate him. All traces of alien presence or technology must be expunged. It is vital to ensure that all materials written or constructed by him which could jeopardize our secrecy be captured or destroyed. Platov's proposal to the IAP states that he will be unveiling a new invention which is capable of "cleaning" radiologically active materials. Our projected timelines indicate that Earth is unlikely to develop such capabilities for another 25-30 years. This "cleaner" must be examined.

Platov is, in all probability, a pawn. While it is necessary to remove him, we would prefer to find out the origin of his assistance to avoid a repeat of this problem next year. Be wary of alerting him to our presence since this could cause his masters to go to ground. However, on the slim chance that an actual alien may be present, you are being issued a high-band phasing stunner. This device should prove effective against anyone having our advanced biological modifications. While harmless to ordinary humans, it is itself evidence of our presence. Avoid revealing it unless absolutely necessary.

Most importantly, be sure to keep a low profile. While we have strong influences in most major governments, we do not yet have total control. Avoid revealing your identity or nature to anyone. In the event that your security is compromised, terminate all witnesses at once. Should violence be required, it may prove necessary to vacate the area in short order to avoid contact with local security forces. Therefore, avoid excessive force unless it is necessary to preserve our secrecy or to achieve your primary objective.

A CIA action team is known to be in the city already searching for Dr. Platov. We have succeeded in placing one of our operatives on that team. Agent Meeder is one of us and can be relied upon to keep us as well briefed as possible. Her identity and safety are to be considered extremely valuable. Do not force her to reveal herself unless it becomes strictly necessary.

Neither we nor the CIA is currently aware of Dr. Platov's whereabouts. However, we are aware that his wife is also defecting. The CIA plans to pick her up, but Agent Meeder has thus far been unable to discover where and when that meeting is to occur. We, however, know that Platov's KGB escorts know where to find the wife. Our sources within the KGB have revealed that they are preoccupied with trying to recover stolen bomb materials. These materials are currently in the hands of the criminal organization known as the "Syndicate." No single nuclear weapon is of great relevance to us, so we suggest you contact the KGB team and trade this information for the wife's location.

We have a picture of a known trouble-maker. This individual is to be considered dangerous, as he is prone to wild theories and violent episodes, and has inexplicably appeared and interfered with several recent operations. This photograph is enclosed.

We have arranged an information exchange meeting with members from the KGB. You are to meet them at 1015, at the coffehouse known as "Aromas", at the intersection of Frankford and Pear Ridge. The KGB does not know who they are meeting with; be sure to keep it that way. Through our sources in the KGB, we know that they are tracking Irina Platov. Acquire her location as she may be able to help us find Dr. Platov.

ROLEPLAYING NOTES
You are members of the fearsome Men in Black. This mysterious group crops up all the time in conspiracy literature. They always dress in black, act mysteriously, coverup strange happenings, and disappear. Most people assume they're with some shadowy government agency, but nobody knows for sure. In this game, you are agents of a secret cabal within the government which is scheming with a group of aliens to take over the Earth. Both you and your masters are human, but you are aware of the offworld presence.

Rule #1 is to preserve your secrecy. Claim to be anybody you want, but don't reveal the truth about yourself. The MiB are not known for their social skills and often are reported as having pursued bizarre goals. Just don't give away anything about aliens, and don't let any offworld technology (including your stunner) slip through your fingers. KEEP A LOW PROFILE. Once the guns start blazing, you need to get out of town to avoid the risk of getting picked up and interrogated. You can't risk a big firefight unless it's either to cover up a security breach or to accomplish your goal of suppressing all traces of alien presence. Die before revealing your secrets, and if the words "men in black" so much as pass the lips of an enemy, terminate them.

One big asset you have is that you're immune to truth serum. Your masters have given you a drug which protects you against most common truth agents. You'll be given a piece of Holy Writ which permits you to lose consciousness for ten minutes immediately upon being injected. No wait, no questions. Still, someone might have developed something new, so you should still make every effort to avoid capture. Never leave one of your own alive in enemy hands.
